THE LAFAYETTE REPORT: Call to Action for Missouri Realtors

Call to Action for Missouri Realtors

Missouri Association of Realtors President T. David Rogers issues call to action to Missouri Realtors to support current fundraising events for RPAC to raise funds for lobbying on issues of importance to real estate professionals.  Mr. Rogers specifically cites the need to monitor and develop grassroots opposition to future proposals for a 1% transfer tax.  In the current market, owner/sellers, purchasers and real estate professionals can ill afford to pay a transfer tax on the sale of real estate.  For example, for the sale of a $200,000.00, it means that one party to the transaction would be forced to pay tax on the sale of $2,000.00 thereby artificially inflating prices, reducing the volume of sales, and increasing the number of short sales.

Here is the video from Mr. Rogers:

More of the same...TAX, TAX, TAX.

Ryan

It all boils down to more taxes. I personally do not like PAC funds, but I can see the need for strength in numbers.

Ryan,

I like the tax credit for home buyers.  I think they should extend it but not until next year.  I need a break.

Kent - There are two proposals floating out there - 1% on professional services and 1% on real estate transfers.  Neither proposal bodes well for real estate professionals.

Tom - I am not a fan of PACs.  However, if the game includes lobbying, then I think Realtors need a voice.  RPAC is doing a good job of taking a proactive stance on these two proposals.

Ann - I doubt we will see the tax credit extended.  It is has been busy so we will see what the next 60 days bring.

Ryan,

T. David has produced a very good video and one that needs to be seen by all but especially those of us here in MO. because of some upcoming events that will be announced at the end of the month at Tan-Tar-A.  I hope to see you there.

Don - Keep reminding me of the date.  I intend to be there - if only to acquire future voting status.

Ryan,

The meeting dates are actually Oct. 1 & 2 but you could go down for the WCR stuff on Sept. 30.

I think you are completely right to fight that tax! Government needs to realize that we are already in trouble with the housing market and to add insult to injury on home sellers by adding a transfer tax is just plain stupid. How about the government tighten their belts and live within their means like the rest of  us have had to do.

Todd - I absolutely agree that this is a proposal that needs to be headed off before it gains steam.
