Well, I think that a neighborhood is only as strong as its local businesses.  This month's featured business in Lafayette Square is Park Avenue Coffee located at 1919 Park Avenue in the heart of Lafayette Square.  

As my colleagues already know, I like to start my day with a nice cup of coffee at Park Avenue Coffee - preferably a triple expresso served by Josh, Chad or the other fine baristas at Park Avenue Coffee.  However, I don't just like any coffee.  You won't find me at a gas station or fast food joint slurping day old coffee.  I subscribe to the the philosophy "Life is Short... Drink Good Coffee."  So, in pursuit of good coffee, I start my day at Park Avenue Coffee.

Dale Schotte, the owner of Park Avenue Coffee, is a hands on owner and is usually on site tending to his Park Avenue Coffee customers.  He definitely likes his customers and takes pride in Park Avenue Coffee's much deserved reputation as one of the finest independent coffee houses in St. Louis.  If you have ever met him, you know that there are two things that excite him - coffee and gooey butter cake - both served as his Park Avenue Coffee establishment. 

Now, if you are not from St. Louis, you may ask "What is gooey butter cake?"  The gooey butter cake at Park Avenue Coffee is simply decadent - it starts with a yellow cake mix crust and is filled a mixture of powdered sugar, butter and cream cheese.  The appeal of gooey butter cake should be obvious from its name and its ingredients: Butter! Sugar! Gooeyness! Even in its purest form offered by Park Avenue Coffee, gooey butter cake  is irresistible. But Dale has a family secret - his mother's traditional recipe - which he and his sister Marilyn have taken in 64 different directions by adding fresh fruit, chocolate, candy bars, etc., which are all available from Park Avenue Coffee located at 1919 Park Avenue. 

Well, I just wanted to congatulate Dale, Marilyn and the staff of baristas at Park Avenue Coffee for some of their recent accomplishments:
