Wednesdays at St. Raymond's Cathedral
St. Raymond's Cathedral is a Maronite Catholic Church founded in 1898. The Cedars, the St. Raymond's Parish Center, is located at 931 Lebanon Drive in the LaSalle Park neighborhood of the City of St. Louis, Missouri, South of Downtown and East of the Lafayette Square neighborhood across the street from the corporate offices of Nestle.
On Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Women's Auxiliary transforms the Cedars into a favorite lunch spot for residents of the City of St. Louis, Missouri, serving between 300 and 500 per lunch including city aldermen, judges, lawyers, factory workers, housewives, and children.
The menu always includes authentic Lebanese foods. Here are a few of my favorites:
- Spinach Pies: Raised dough filed with spinach, lemon juice, and spices. ($3.00)
- Kibbi Aras: Ground sirloin mixed with cracked wheat and filed with a stuffing of beef, onions and spices and then deep fired. ($3.00) (Traditional or raw Kibbi available first Wednesday of month)
- Grape Leaf Roll: Vine leaf stuffed with meat and rice and seasoned with lemon juice and spices. ($0.65)
- Stuffed Pepper: Green pepper stuffed with meat, rice and spices cooked in a tomato sauce. ($3.75)
- Tabbouli Salad: Parsley, green onion, tomatoes, cracked wheat, peppermint, lemon and oil. ($3.25)
- Lebanese Coffee ($0.75) and a full assortment of Lebanese desserts filled with cashews or pistachios.
